How to build a pottery wheel

Check these materials before you start

The older PZwiki table and the independent pottery tutorial agree on this wheel assembly:

• 4 planks and 4 nails.
• 1 Stone Wheel and 1 Small Stone Wheel. These are two separate components, not two of the same size.
• A hammer accepted by the construction recipe.

Why Masonry blocks a level-0 pottery recipe

There are two gates: making the workstation and making an item at it. A low-level bowl recipe does not mean its workstation can be assembled from scratch at the same skill level.

Separate wilderness-run discussions identify Masonry 2 for the stone-wheel parts. Check the recipes for both sizes before grinding Pottery XP. Raising Pottery alone does not address a missing masonry component.

Materials ready? Open Building, not Crafting

1. Open the Building menu: use its icon on the left side of the screen. Building and Crafting are separate interfaces. Do not rely on a right-click construction menu or assume that B opens Building.
2. Find Pottery Wheel. Use the building search, then select the wheel entry. Compare its requirements with the material list above.
3. Choose Build and place the wheel. Move the placement preview to your intended spot and click a valid position. If placement is blocked, try a clear space rather than crafting more stone parts.
4. Confirm the result: the wheel must exist as a placed workstation in the world. Having its parts in a bag is not the same as having built it.

Which part is actually stopping you?

• No wheel entry: first confirm you opened Building, not Crafting. More Pottery XP will not fix the wrong menu.
• A stone component is missing: one large and one small wheel are required. Check each component recipe; player reports put their bottleneck at Masonry 2, not Pottery 2.
• Build is unavailable: read the unmet requirement on the selected construction entry. A hammer being present is not enough if that recipe does not accept its type.
• The wheel is placed but no pottery appears: building the station does not make an item. Continue with an item recipe and its clay and water requirements.

If these checks do not match your interface, record the displayed build number and enabled crafting mods. This page has not been reproduced in 42.20.4, so it does not label an unexplained failure a game bug.

Pottery wheel or pottery bench?

They are different workstations. Do not build a bench simply because its name sounds interchangeable with a wheel: inspect the workstation named by the item recipe.

Once you can shape an item, check its output name. An unfired piece still needs the firing stage; the wheel does not replace a kiln.
